In Rio de Janeiro, at least 13 people were killed by heavy rains
telesurtv.ne reported that the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral, reported that at least 140 families were moved to safe houses, which are outside the areas of risk, while the mayor of Petrópolis declared a state of emergency. Heavy rains in southeastern Brazil on Monday left a toll of 16 dead in the state of Rio de Janeiro (east), as reported by the authorities of that country. Mainly affected are in the city of Petrópolis. “There are about five thousand families whose homes are in danger of collapse or being buried by landslides,” remarked the prefect of the city, Bomtempo Rubens, who hit that this is compounded because many people are reluctant to leave their homes.
