At around 4:43 pm on Saturday, January 13, a US citizen contacted the 9-1-1 emergency line to report that she was missing in the El Chato sector, on the upper part of Santa Cruz Island.

The Galapagos Local Center made the respective coordinations with the National Police, the Galapagos National Park, the Fire Department and the Armed Forces to begin the search for the 81-year-old foreigner, who at the time of communicating with 9-1-1 received medical support via telephone.

In the 18 hours of intense search several land groups were formed, in which 6 firemen, 8 park rangers, 3 police officers and a naturalist guide participated, according to Captain Miguel Mosquera, from the Fire Department.

On Sunday morning, a naval helicopter located the lost tourist, the rescue group spotted her from the airplane approximately 400 meters from the search site on the ground.

At the moment the American tourist is housed in the Republic Hospital of Ecuador, with a diagnosis of moderate dehydration but with stable vital signs.

In case of loss or disappearance of people, citizens should call 9-1-1, in order to coordinate immediate response resources to address this type of case. The Integrated Security Service is active 24 hours a day throughout the national and insular territory. <a href=”https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=es&amp;tl=en&amp;js=y&amp;prev=_t&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ecu911.gob.ec%2Fturista-extraviada-en-santa-cruz-fue-localizada-mediante-coordinacion-del-ecu-911%2F&amp;edit-text=”>Read Article</a>
