Popular tourist area in India is also a hotbed for harassment of female tourists

Deccanchronicle.com reports that the old city area, during Ramzan, is a favourite spot for tourists and many locals for its haleem and shopping. But apart from haleem, it also has quite a good number of sexual harassment cases to offer. Women visitors to Charminar complain that harassment of women is not considered a serious offence by people and police. Many such complaints are treated on the basis of ‘gravity of the situation,’ though most go unreported to police. Shruti Rayavarapu, an MBA graduate said, “If one is walking through the Laad Bazaar stretch, shopkeepers address you as ‘babyji’ and try to whistle to get your attention. The place is so volatile that I have to think many times before I pick a fight with any of them.” Read article
