Peru: Tourist From France reports rape, says ordeal with police worse than rape itself

A 20 year-old tourist 20 years of age from France and visiting Peru in January 2016, reported she was raped by a man who claimed he was an owner of a hostel in Nazca. Apparently the accused has two previous sexual assault complaints from tourists.

Celine Mouchard was visiting regions across Peru and Cusco and Puno before reaching Ica. Once in Nasca, she stayed in a hostel and the man who identified himself as the owner of the business. He invited her for a drink and offered to take her to money exchange at the request of the tourist.

“I started to feel sick it gave me a headache and body went numb,” she said to the cameras of America news French tourist. Within minutes, he took her to a vacant lot and sexually abused her.

The subject was identified as Wilbert Luis Cancho Meza, who has a history of rape. He refused to be interviewed even though he had already been denounced in 2011 for another victim, a Colombian woman. The case was not filed because the woman did not return his country to continue the process.

Celine Mouchard unfortunately continued after suffering from rape. He fled Nasca, arrived in Lima to file the complaint but says he did not take it seriously. “All questions you why you were not you, why did not you scream, why traveling alone and why you took the glass. It was worse than the rape itself,” she said. Read Article
