London, England: Strike could strand Australian cyclists

A WALKOUT of security staff at Heathrow Airport threatens to block the passage of Australian cyclists into London, but team chef de mission Nick Green is confident contingency plans will smooth the passage to the Olympic Games next week for one of the Australia’s most high-achieving units if required. Olympic men’s road cycling team members Cadel Evans, Stuart O’Grady, Matt Goss, Michael Rogers and Simon Gerrans finish Tour de France duties in Paris on Sunday and will contest the men’s road race on the first day of Olympic competition next Saturday. But they stand to be affected by the border guard dispute that Britain’s Home Secretary Theresa May has termed “shameful”. Read article
