United States: Passenger “falls out” of small plane near Miami

The Guardian reports that rescue crews have been scouring an area south-east of Miami after a pilot reported to the Federal Aviation Administration that a passenger fell out of his small plane into the ocean. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the call came at 1.30pm (6.30pm GMT) on Thursday from the pilot of a Piper PA 46 aircraft when it was flying at about 2,000ft (610m). According to a recording on the website LiveATC.Net, the unidentified pilot calmly radioed “mayday, mayday, mayday” and told an air traffic controller a door was ajar. Read article
