Spain: Missing U.S. tourist’ body identified, hiking Camino de Santiago, arrest made

An arrest was made in her case earlier this month, but her fate was unclear until now. DNA tests have confirmed a body found in Spain is that of Denise Thiem, a Litchfield Park woman missing since April. A State Department spokesman confirmed Thiem’s death to azcentral and The Arizona Republic on Friday.
Thiem’s family had received confirmation of a DNA match on Wednesday, said Phil Thompson, a family friend.
Thiem, 41, had traveled to Spain to hike the Camino de Santiago, a popular trek across northern Spain. She went missing on April. 5, Easter Sunday, shortly after leaving the town of Astorga. Her disappearance launched a massive search and increasing agony for Thiem’s friends and family. Read Article
