Paris France: Police step up patrols to combat crimes against tourists

The city of Paris has been responding to an increase in crimes against tourists. A new wave of tourists from countries relatively new to travel has provided criminal predators around the world new targets that are less savvy about personal security while traveling. In 2013, the Parisian Préfecture de Police (PPP) put together an overall strategy to deal with an increase in crime against tourists. The problem came to a head last year when Louvre workers went on strike to protest what they called a “small army of pickpockets” working the museum. The PPP went into action and a consequent reduction in criminal incidents even as more tourists arrived in 2013 has compelled the city to increase the measures in 2014. Read Article
