England: Authorities practice security procedures to protect the Thames

British police and military forces using a helicopter and inflatable boats teamed up Thursday to practice security procedures designed to protect the Thames river from possible terrorist attacks during the 2012 London Olympics. The Thames is Britain’s best-known river, immortalized in the novels of Charles Dickens, and a waterway once so putrid that it shut Parliament because of its stench.
