Cusco Peru: ticket scam targeting tourists

According to larepublica.pe, tourist police are trying to locate two suspects that are scamming tourists with counterfeit entrance tickets for various attractions in the Cusco region.

1. At least six cases have been formally filed regarding two individuals selling the counterfeit tickets. Most of the victims have been tourists from Argentina.
2. The scam artists often meet the victims in nightclubs on the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. They work at gaining the trust of the tourist and will often invite them for a drink. they then convince the tourist to give them the money to purchase the ticket(s), and then provide the person a ticket.
3. The counterfeit ticket is then discovered when the tourist attempts to use the ticket at an attraction.
4. The two thieves have not been identified – one is believed to use the name “Beto”
