China: Shanghai Tourism Bureau Data reports increase of 10.2% visitors in 2011

Shanghai’s vice mayor has called for a trial run of a program in the city that will see overseas tourists obtain tax rebates upon departure, in an effort to boost Shanghai’s status as a retail hotspot and to further encourage tourists to spend in the city. Zhao Wen, vice mayor in charge of tourism, said on the sidelines of the ongoing two sessions that tax rebates on luxury goods will help promote economic growth in Shanghai. Read article
