State of emergency declared by Myanmar President due to deadly riots

Myanmar president Thein Sein has declared a state of emergency in the country after sectarian tensions between Buddhists and Muslims led to deadly riots. So far, seven people have died in the unrest – which flared up in the coastal region of Rakhine state on Friday – with a further 17 wounded. Hundreds of houses were also set alight as the riots raged.
