WHO Report Reveals Peru Death Rate on Roads Worst in Latin America

Peru’s roads are among the most deadly in Latin America, according to a new report by the World Health Organization.
The WHO’s 2013 report on road safety said that Peru has 15.9 deaths per 100,000 people. Countries that have a higher fatality rate include Venezuela at 37.2 per 100,000 and Brazil at 22.5 per 100,000. Mexico’s rate is 14.7 per 100,000, while Chile’s is 12.3 per 100,000. The WHO’s study, which was reported by Spain’s El Pais newspaper and local Peruvian dailies, says there were 555 fatalities in Peru from traffic accidents in 2012, in addition to almost 4,000 injuries.
