Northern Mariana Islands: Thief imprisoned for robbing Japanese tourist in Saipan

As covered by saipantribune.com, “A man who was caught on surveillance camera stealing 80,000 Japanese yen or approximately $900 from the pouch of a tourist was slapped with a five-month prison term. Mark Escobar, 31, pleaded guilty to theft on Wednesday as part of a plea deal and was slapped with a five-year sentence, all suspended except for five months, to be served without parole…According to a plea agreement, Escobar stole 80,000 Japanese yen from Hayato Kimura’s wallet at the VIP Lounge of the Francisco C.
