Kenya: Gunmen attack popular tourist shopping mall in Nairobi

NBC News reports that gunmen stormed a crowded shopping mall frequented by Westerners on Saturday in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi in an apparent terror attack. A witness said that gunmen armed with AK-47s and grenades told Muslims to stand up and leave and that non-Muslims would be targeted, according to The Associated Press. A Kenya Red Cross official said at least 22 people are dead, but the Kenya defense secretary put the casualty numbers at 11 dead and 40 wounded. “Our position so far is 11, about 40 for the injured, I say it may go up but for now that’s the number we have,” said Joseph Ole Lenku, Kenya’s Secretary for Defense and Internal Affairs.
