French Alps: British Climber Dies in Horrific Mountain Climbing Accident

A former Royal Marine who left the military this year and had just last month got engaged to be married has died in a horrific climbing accident in the French Alps. Duncan Potts, 28, who lived in Coldridge in Devon, was on the way down after a climb in the Dent du Géant sector of the Mont Blanc range on Wednesday when he grabbed hold of a rock that came off in his hands, causing him to fall around three metres.

The rock, described by gendarme mountain rescuer Commandant Stéphane Bozon as “as big as a car boot,” then fell down on top of him, smashing into his head and shoulders and probably killing him on the spot as his climbing companion watched in horror from above. Read Full Article
