France: anthrax diagnosed in a heroin addict

A case of infection with anthrax were reported in an injectable heroin user in France in the Rhone-Alpes, while four other cases, including two deaths, were reported in two other countries European Union, it was learned Friday from medical sources. Rare in Western Europe, the anthrax bacillus is due to a serious but can be cured by antibiotics given time, say the health authorities. An outbreak of anthrax (anthrax in English) related to the injection of contaminated heroin had occurred in 2009/2010, causing the infection of 119 people in Scotland, 5 in England and two in Germany.
