France Alert: road accidents and unsafe driving are on the rise due to holiday traffic

Big Increase in Pedestrian Deaths
Despite a summer police crackdown on speeding drivers, the number of road deaths in France, especially for pedestrians and cyclists, rose sharply last month according to statistics published on Monday. Relatively warmer weather in July lured more summer escapees to the road than last year driving a 3.6 per cent increase in fatalities, a total of 367 deaths, and a 1.7 per cent rise in serious injuries.
