Ecuador: Spanish climber dies in summit attempt of Chimborazo volcano

Ecuador Police confirmed the death of Spanish hiker Sunday Jairo Pena, age 31, while attempting a climb to the summit of the volcano Chimborazo, the highest mountain in the Andean country. Alfonso Camacho, head of the Police Command in the province of Chimborazo, told a news conference that the body of Spanish was rescued this afternoon and taken to the mortuary (funeral) of the city of Riobamba, the capital of that jurisdiction.
