Death of a Taiwanese soldier sparks mass protests in Taipei

The Wall Street Journal reports that the death of an army conscript continues to send political shockwaves through Taiwan, with anonymous online organizers rallying more than 110,000 protesters to flood the streets of Taipei over the weekend. Many young people were among the protesters clad in white mourning garb who marched on the Presidential Office on Saturday. Protesters sung a variation of a revolutionary song from the musical “Les Miserables” while holding aloft an image of an eye inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984.” Read article
