Australia: Firefighters work to rescue tour group trapped by bushfires

Abc.net.au reports that firefighters are still trying to control a bushfire which kept a group of tourists trapped in a Kimberley national park at the weekend. The bushfire flared up in the Geikie gorge National Park near Fitzroy Crossing at the weekend. On Sunday afternoon, fire crews rounded up nine tourists but the fire was burning too close to the access road for them to leave safely. Instead, the group took shelter by a river. The Department of Parks and Wildlife’s Alan Byrne says it was an hour and half before it was safe for them to leave. Read article
