Charlottetown, Canada: Employees striking at Prince Edward Island Airport could affect flights

Close to 800 people who do airport security screening at 17 airports across Atlantic Canada are represented by the United Steel Workers union. Their contract with Securitas Transportation Airport Security will expire Oct. 31. The workers have already voted in support of a strike. Security at airports is governed by the Canadian Air Transport Security Agency, an arm’s-length federal agency. About a year ago it divided the country into four regions and tendered airport security out to the private sector for each of those regions.
