Canadian tourists warned to remain vigilant in Peru due to political social conflicts and possible strikes

Canadians are advised to exercise a high degree of caution due to potential social conflicts and strikes that may occur across the country. Demonstrations may occur and may become violent. Roadblocks may occur on main roads and cause traffic disruptions. Canadians should not attempt to cross blockades, even if they appear unattended. Curfews may also be in effect and airports may be closed in response to unrest. The Peruvian Health Ministry is advising visitors and residents to avoid beaches and seashores located between Lima and the Northern border of the country until further investigation of the death of a high number of marine species, such as pelicans and dolphins, on Peru’s shores over the weekend.
