Puerto Rico, shark attack

When planning a surf trip to Puerto Rico the hazards that come to mind are sea urchins, shallow reefs, the annoying little “pichu-pichu”, or “sea lice”, the local Sticky fingers, and local attitudes… Sharks, well you don’t pay ‘em any mind because “there’s never been a shark attack on a surfer”. The general understanding is that there are “no sharks” in Puerto Rico. There are actually sharks in Puerto Rico, but there had never been a shark attack on record and you do not see them in the water when you are surfing. Many think that it is that the reef formations in Puerto Rico keep the sharks farther out to sea. Read Article
