Brazil nightclub fire leaves at least 232 dead, hundreds injured, nightspot only had one exit

On January 27, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that a fire at a nightclub in Santa Maria, in the center of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, left 232 people dead. It already is considered one of the worst tragedies in the history of the state. According to security in the nightclub, between 1,000 and 2,000 people were in the nightclub when the fire occurred.
